Bachy Soletanche has installed 1,000 piles on National Grid’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank project on the east coast of England.

Working on behalf of Entrepose Contracting, Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Taylor Woodrow (EVT), piling contractor Bachy Soletanche is installing more than 1,300 continuous flight auger (CFA) piles to support a 190,000m3 LNG tank in Kent.

The piles for the project are 600mm in diameter, installed to a depth of 25m.

Bachy Soletanche is now over three quarters into the piling job, after recently hitting the 1,000 pile milestone.

National Grid awarded the £170M engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project to the EVT joint venture, which includes all Vinci Construction subsidiaries, in January 2021.

This project is part of a programme to expand the capacity of the largest LNG terminal in Europe located on the Isle of Grain.

The works are set to continue until June 2025.
