You hear it multiple times from riders about camping: What do you do once you’re set up?

The most common answer—drink whisky!

But what if it’s cold, or maybe you’re feeling productive or adventurous once you get off the bike? Here are a few things you might want to add to your kit. Clicking the photos will link to some ideas, but search out what might work for you and fit on your bike—there are dozens of options for each.

If you wild camp in areas that permit fires and cutting a little wood, a lightweight saw which folds down to a smallish size is a good idea.

The Svensaw is one of the most well-known folding saws; they cost about $45 and pack small enough (around 15″) to attach to a pannier rack Photo: Amazon

Folding saws come in all shapes and sizes, but remember they usually cut on the pull stroke, not when you’re pushing the blade, so they can keep the blade lightweight. Photo: Amazon

The lightest saw you can get is a manually-operated camping chainsaw. Do a search, there are loads of options here. This one I found had paracord handles that could help you in other areas in an emergency. Photo: Amazon

Ok, you’ve made your fire, but now realized you have nowhere to sit. If you don’t want to sit on the ground could you make a stool? If you had an auger bit tool you could, if the right wood options are close to hand, You just need to be a little creative. Photo: SmartSaker Photo: SmartSaker

If you can find some dry timber around, you can also use the auger to make a rocket stove! See below:

So you have a way to cut wood to make your fire, a way to make your stool, and a way to make a stove. What are you going to cook?

Is there a river close by? A carbon fiber collapsible fly fishing pole might be an option to catch your dinner (make sure you have the necessary license!). Photo: Amazon

Or maybe you grabbed some meat from the store on the way to your remote location? Then the ideal companion would be the Adjustafork, made by inmate JoeMotocross
