Since their original inception in 1994, we've known Maine's AA baseball team as the Portland Sea Dogs. However, through the years and for different reasons, the team has gone through very temporary name changes. That's going to happen again for one game only this summer.

In honor of National Hotdog Month, which just happens to be in July during the middle of baseball season, the Portland Sea Dogs will change their name to the Maine Red Snappers. According to WGME 13, "Known for their bright red color and snap from the natural casing, Maine’s red snapper hot dogs are traditionally served in a split top New England style hot dog bun. The red hot dogs have been the go-to hot dog for many Mainers for over 100 years."

The name change will take place during the home game in Portland on Saturday, July 24th as the Sea Dogs, errr Red Snappers, take on the Harrisburg Senators. The team will also be providing 100 Red Snapper lunches to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital as well as selling $1 snappers in front of the park to celebrate the launch.
